I composed this work for timpanist Jeffrey Kautz during his remote residency at Texas Tech University amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Every rehearsals, lessons, and performances had moved online, but we musicians continued to create and connect. Let there be spring, youth, and passion even in uncertain times!
